Management Office

The office’s main task is to manage business for the council and steering committee of the metropolitan region. The two entities meet twice a year to agree on strategies and projects.

The management office focuses on preparing strategic issues with regard to content and introducing them into the political decision-making process (governance) of the metropolitan region. The management office develops and organises an annual conference for the region with scientists and professional experts, including the annual conference in Bad Windsheim (2007) which yielded the Declaration of Bad Windsheim. This document established the approach of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region in terms of an urban-rural partnership. In order to carry out its initiatives, the metropolitan region has successfully applied for funding and implemented various pilot projects of the Federal Office for Regional Planning (MORO), including nature parks, Original Regional and many others.

The management office is responsible for the metropolitan region’s media and public relations (newsletter, communication).  The management office represents the region’s interests within the Initiative for European Metropolitan Regions in Germany (IKM). It fulfils a coordinating role between the metropolitan region’s committees as well as cross-departmental functions. The office also organises its own events. In addition, it leads the semi-annual working meeting with staff members of the administrative districts and mayoral offices.

Since September 2010, the Bavarian State Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology has sponsored the cooperation office ”Rural Areas – Urban Areas Partnership in the European Metropolitan Region Nuremberg”, which is housed at the metropolitan region’s management office. The office supports the projects that the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region has successfully initiated with regard to urban and rural area cooperation.
